ATTENTION: Intermediate and Advance Orchestra Students and Parents

Dear Intermediate and Advanced Orchestra Parents,

The Advanced and Intermediate Orchestras have been hard at work preparing for our next performance and our spring trip to California. The remaining section of this letter has items that will need your attention in the coming months.

Festival Workshop and Concert
On Tuesday, March 15 the orchestras will host a special guest clinician who will spend the day working with both the Intermediate and the Advanced Orchestras. Bill Bitter is an award winning music educator who has taught high school orchestra in the Phoenix, Arizona area for over 30 years. Mr. Bitter will work with our students during their regular orchestra class periods on the concert music we have been rehearsing. I am also trying to arrange for the students to have an additional hour clinic with him during 5th or 6th period. More information will follow on this as it is confirmed. To culminate our workshop day with Mr. Bitter the students will perform a concert in the Green Valley HS Theater that evening. This concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. and feature both the Intermediate and the Advanced Orchestras along with the GVHS Chamber Orchestra. Friends and family are encouraged to support our students by coming to this free concert. The concert will be fairly short and should be over by 7:15 p.m. Call for the students will be 5:20 p.m.

California Trip
The second payment for March 31 – April 2 trip to California is due on Tuesday, February 23. The payment of $175.00 can be made in cash, money order, or cashier’s check directly to the school bank or the student can bring the payment to their orchestra class. Payment can also be made on the GVHS web store under Green Valley Orchestra Trip. For those students planning to travel with us an updated itinerary with hotel information is attached to this letter. Please also note that the tour bus along with symphony and baseball tickets are being finalized and purchased on February 24. After this date I cannot add students to the trip nor can I refund deposit money if a student cancels after this date.

Chocolate Sale
The orchestras will begin selling World’s Finest Chocolate bars next Tuesday, February 16. Each bar sells for $1.00 and for every 10 bars sold the student earns $4.00 in their fund raising account. Students may begin selling by checking out a bag 20 assorted chocolate bars. Once a positive pattern of selling the chocolate bars and returning the money in a timely manner is established the student may check more than 20 bars at one time. If you want your child to check out more than 20 bars to start please send a note with them with the amount of chocolate that you would like. Please remember that once a case is opened it cannot be returned so all bars checked out need to be sold and paid for.

Thank you for your continued support of the GVHS Orchestra program. I am extremely grateful to be teaching such outstanding students and I look forward to outstanding performance as well as a fun spring trip with them.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have.  My email is sab564@interact.ccsd.net and my school phone number is 799-0950 ext. 4063.

Sincerely,
Shelly Burger
